Arum hygrophilum

£2.50

3x seedling Arum hygrophilum tubers. Each tuber approx 1cm in diameter. These will obviously need growing on, but they will make a good starter for those who enjoy growing unusual plants.

Arum hygrophilum is an unusual and distinctive species. Strongly lobed leaves appear early in the autumn, followed by the narrow creamy inflorescence by early spring, the margins of which are edged with maroon. There is no noticeable scent.

We have not found Arum hygrophilum to be as tender as its reputation suggests. In fact, it thrives left to its own devices planted out and tends to struggle when grown in pots, although a position with a little shelter from wind and the worst of the frosts will give best results. If you do grow it in a pot, use a very deep ‘long tom’ style pot and refresh the compost annually, as well as fertilising regularly during the growing season.
