Description

x Alworthia ‘Black Gem’ is an unusual plant. Often referred to incorrectly as ‘Aloe Black Gem’, it is actually an intergeneric cross between Haworthia cymbiformis and Aloe speciosa, and the correct terminology is x Alworthia ‘Black Gem’.

Growing into a dense and tightly clustered mound,’Black Gem’ makes an attractive low growing clump. The leaves are a deep green with a bronze or red tinge that becomes more apparent with increased sun and drought.

Whilst certainly cool tolerant, it should be protected from frost. This has overwintered fine in an unheated greenhouse here in Devon. A lovely little plant for an exotic style succulent display and combines well with Aeonium, Echiveria and Agave.
