Remusatia

Remusatia in an Asian genus containing 4 species. They are primarily grown for their attractive foliage which can be spectacular. They produce dramatic heart shaped leaves, reminiscent of the better known Colocasia.

Sometimes known as Hitchhiker Plants, Remusatia produce long stolons covered in tiny hooked bulbils that attach themselves to animals and birds and aid dispersal. These rarely form here in the UK, however, from time to time we do get bulbils forming and are able to offer these for sale too. These are listed under our Aroid Seeds page.

Although all species are happy growing in our cool summers they are all frost tender. We lift our tubers with the onset of the first frosts, clean and dry them, and simply store the tubers in the cool and dark before planting them again in the spring.

To start the tubers into growth, plant them around 5cm deep and keep warm and just moist. They are ideal for pot culture, but once in growth, they can be planted out in the garden for the summer.
