Description
Aloe aristata growing in a 9cm pot.
This compact, clump forming Aloe species is a tough little plant. It survives here in an unheated greenhouse and polytunnel with no trouble, and even survives unprotected outside most years. The key appears to be keeping them on the dry side during the winter months. However, they thrive on plenty of water during warmer times of the year.
Eventually making rosettes to about 20cm in diameter, Aloe aristata is generous with offsets around the edge. These can be removed and potted on as required, or left to form a multi-headed clump. Attractive flowers are produced from larger rosettes in late summer.
A popular and reliable little succulent, and well suited for pot culture, seasonal rockery displays or gravel gardens.
