Description

Arisaema griffithii var pradhanii might sound quite a mouthful, but don’t let that put you off. This is the most impressive variety of Arisaema griffithii, which itself is an impressive plant to start with!

Arisaema griffithii var pradhanii is always in demand and good quality tubers can be hard to find.

Found in the wild growing in the Indian region of Sikkim in the Himalayas, Arisaema griffithii var pradhanii has a greatly enlarged spathe up to 20cm across. A giant! The markings are just as striking as the regular form of Arisaema griffithii, being patterned with maroon on a pale green background. The spadix appendage can be 80cm long and trails on the ground in a tangled mass beneath the plant. The single trifoliate leaf is architectural and showy.

In the wild, Arisaema griffithii grows amongst Rhododendrons in the Himalayas. In cultivation, it proves fully hardy in well drained soil and can tolerate more open, sunny conditions than many other Arisaema.
