Arisaema nikoense is a widespread Japanese species, and very variable in form. It has consequently been subdivided into several varieties or forms. In all honesty, the taxonomy of this species is highly confusing and I have largely given up trying to establish what is what! Suffice to say that this is a lovely little plant and one that is seldom seen in cultivation.
Flowers are produced before the leaves emerge, and these are eventually held above the leaves. Spathes are attractively striped. Not hardy – grow in a well drained compost mix and keep cool and dry but frost free during dormancy.
