Description

1x flowering sized Bellevalia paradoxa bulb.

The genus Bellevalia is closely related to Muscari, and the similarities are very obvious when in flower. However, unlike the common thug Grape Hyacinth (Muscari armeniacum), they are not invasive or untidy, and are in fact delightful spring flowering bulbs.

Bellevalia paradoxa is fully hardy and grows well in a sunny and reasonably well drained spot. Ideal for a bulb pan or pot culture. It makes dense flower spikes in a deep dusky blue to around 25cm in height. Bulbs can slowly multiply via offsets, but never in huge numbers and it is certainly not a vigorous spreader. It has never set seed for me so far.

A lovely little plant for the bulb enthusiast.
