Description
1x Boehmeria aff. nipononivea CMBJP1924 growing in a 1 litre pot.
This is a rarely offered Boehmeria species. We have been growing it in the garden for a number of years. Fully hardy, it makes sturdy stems to around 1.5 metres with serrated leaves and tiny white flowers having in tassles by early Autumn. This behaves as a fully herbaceous plant for us, dying back to the ground during the winter and emerging again in the spring.
The genus Boehmeria is a member of the Urticaceae, or Nettle, family (thankfully they do not sting!). All Boehmeria are well worth seeking out and growing, and they make superb and unusual foliage plants. Some species have attractive clusters of flowers that hang in tassles from the leaf axils, although they are primarily grown for their foliage.
Best grown in a semi-shaded position in the garden.
