Description

1x bulb of Brunsvigia josephinae TCM0612604. This has been raised and grown from seed in the UK (not an import from South Africa) and is fully phased to growing in the Northern hemisphere. Virtually never offered for sale.

Brunsvigia josephinae is one of the most highly sought after South African bulbs. Making very large and spectacular flowerheads that can be 30 – 40cm across in a deep red / pinksih colour. Typically flowering in around February / March, with the leaves following on after. These are a greyish green, long and strappy.

Brunsvigia josephinae is a winter grower and needs to be grown on a typical Mediterranean bulb cycle. It requires an exceptionally free draining compost mix made from grit, sand and a little organic matter. Dilute feed can be applied when in leaf. As with all winter growing South African bulbs, very careful watering is needed to avoid rotting the bulbs. Although this is a cool tolerant plant, it needs to be grown frost free. In all honesty, this is not a plant for those new to bulb growing and it does need a little experience.

These bulbs are seed raised in the UK, fully phased with the Northern hemisphere and already many years old. They will still need more years before flowering. TCM0612604 refers to Tom Mitchell who raised these bulbs whilst working on his nursery, Evolution Plants (now sadly closed).
