Chamaerops humilis var. cerifera Seeds

£4.00

Seed packet containing 10x Chamaerops humilis var. cerifera seeds.

Chamaerops humilis, the Mediterranean Fan Palm, is one of only two palm species native to Europe. It is a variable species, with numerous cultivated and wild forms. However, the most striking form of all is Chamaerops humilis var. cerifera, which is found South of the Mediterranean Sea in Morocco’s Atlas mountains. It has a superb glaucous blue colouration to the leaves and black thorns on the petioles. A mature plant is breath-taking and quite unlike the usual green forms from Europe.

Just as hardy as the regular forms, Chamaerops humilis var. cerifera is easily grown in full sun in a sheltered garden. These seeds are fresh and are giving good germination rates for us. Sow the seeds in moist sphagnum moss at around 25degrees or higher inside a transparent ziplock bag. Once the seeds show signs of germination, simply pot up into a good quality compost and wait for the first leaf to appear.
