Colocasia gaoligongensis, whilst being a bit of a mouthful, is possibly the best Colocasia for the UK garden!

Deciduous in habit when grown in the UK, Colocasia gaoligongensis reproduces via underground stolons and is hardy to around -9 when well mulched. Leaves can reach to around 2 feet in length. Flowers are produced quite freely, adding the charm and beauty of this wonderful plant.

Description

A superb plant and an absolute favourite here. Colocasia gaoligongensis might be a mouthful to pronounce, but is by far the best Colocasia species for permanent outdoors planting in the UK. Provided that the tubers are given a thick mulch they have proven surprisingly hardy and came through -9 during unscathed during December 2010.

Deciduous in habit when grown in the UK, Colocasia gaoligongensis reproduces readily via long stolons. Leaves can reach to around 2 feet or so in length and flowers are produced quite freely, adding the charm and beauty of this wonderful plant.

For best results plant in a rich organic compost in light shade. Full sun is also tolerated, although the leaves will be smaller. A moist soil will give the most dramatic and lush results.

Sent actively growing and potted in a 9cm pot.
