From Southern Africa, this lovely Gladiolus species makes very thin, almost grass-like foliage to around 50cm in height, with superb pale creamy / ivory coloured flowers in late winter / early spring. I have failed to take a picture of these every year so far!
Easily grown in a well drained compost mix. Gladiolus tristis is a winter growing species. Whilst it is certainly cool tolerant, and doesn’t seem to mind the UK’s dark winter light levels, it will undoubtedly do best under cool glass unless you happen to live in an exceptionally mild corner of the UK.
