Description
Hedychium ‘Devon Cream’ – either dispatched as a recently divided, but fully rooted rhizome (early season – winter / spring), or as an established potted plant later in the season (late spring / summer). Either way, you will receive a fresh and mature, flowering sized rhizome that is fully rooted and ready for planting straight into the garden. It won’t be a dormant, rootless and dry rhizome, such as is so often offered elsewhere.
The cultivar ‘Devon Cream’ has been a reliable performer here for many years. In fact in my experience, it may just be the best Hedychium for the open garden. It makes strong stems to about 1.5m in height, topped with pale yellow and very highly scented flowers from August.
Plant into a rich garden soil in a sheltered and sunny position. As with all Hedychium, give them a generous mulch in the autumn or winter. This helps insulate the rhizomes from cold and also feeds the roots.
