Description
Hedychium ‘Tara’ – either dispatched as a recently divided, but fully rooted flowering sized rhizome (early season – winter / spring), or as an established potted plant later in the season (late spring / summer). Either way, you will receive a fresh and mature, flowering sized rhizome that is fully rooted and ready for planting straight into the garden. It won’t be a dormant, rootless and dry rhizome, such as is so often offered elsewhere.
Hedychium ‘Tara’ is a strong and reliable garden plant. It is easy to please and flowers well here every year. Flower colour is a dazzling bright orange – a real show stopper! Typically reaching around 1.5m in height, perhaps slightly more.
Plant into a rich garden soil in a sheltered and sunny position. As with all Hedychium, give them a generous mulch in the autumn or winter. This helps insulate the rhizomes from cold and also feeds the roots.
Hedychium ‘Tara’ was introduced by Tony Shilling from seed collected back in 1972. It has been given the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
