Description
Seed packet containing 10x seeds of Musa sikkimensis.
One of the best cold-hardy banana species for the UK, Musa sikkimensis is a reliable performer in the UK garden. Fully root hardy once established, the pseudostem can take several degrees of frost too. Like it’s better known relative, Musa basjoo, some winter protection will be required in colder areas, but here in the South West, it is generally left to its own devices with no problems.
New growth has lovely red splashes on the leaves.
Soak the seeds for 24 hours before sowing at 25-30 degrees. It has been reported that fluctuating temperatures can speed up germination, so perhaps turn off the heated propagator at night.
