Description

Pyrgophyllum yunnanense is a member of the Ginger family and is the only species within the genus. Exquisite yellow flowers are held at the end of the relatively short stems in late summer.

Growth arises from fleshy tuberous roots, rather similar in appearance to Roscoea, and in terms of cultivation, conditions that suit Roscoea will also be ideal for Pyrgophyllum. Plant in a good humus rich soil in part shade or a sunny spot that does not bake bone dry.

This has proven hardy for us here in Devon. Flowering sized rhizomes offered. A very rarely seen species, and hardly ever offered.
