Description
Senecio articulatus established in a 9cm pot.
Senecio articulatus, the Candle Plant, is a South African succulent that makes weird swollen stems and fleshy leaves. During periods of drought, or if watering is withheld, the leaves drop off and only the bizarre swollen stems remain.
Reaching a maximum of 40cm tall, this is a curiosity that is well worth growing. Surprisngly cold hardy, it has taken well below freezing when kept totally dry in an unheated greenhouse, and has even come through the occasional winter in a pot outside in a sheltered location (however, this is not recommended!)
