Syagrus romanzoffiana, The Queen Palm, is a very widely grown species of utmost beauty, popular throughout much of the globe. Eventually making wonderful plumes of feathery leaves held on top of a slender trunk, it has a highly exotic appearance.
Native to Brazil, Argentina and Uraguay. The ‘Santa Catarina Form’ comes from a high altitude area of Brazil, and is stated to be naturally hardier to cold than other forms. Largely untested in the UK, it has potential when larger in very mild spots, or grown as a pot plant and overwintered frost free.
