Trachycarpus latisectus Seeds
£4.75
10x seeds of Trachycarpus latisectus.
Commonly known as the Windamere Palm, Trachycarpus latisectus is an unusual member of the Trachycarpus family that makes a tall, elegant palm. The leaves are instantly recongnisable, being wide and glossy and are very distinct from other Trachycarpus palms.
Seeds have a kidney bean shape, in common with Trachycarpus martianus, to which this appears to be closely related.
Trachycarpus latisectus is not as hardy as others within the genus and it will need some winter protection in colder areas of the UK to keep it looking good. However, there are good examples growing in the South West and milder parts of the country, as well as several in cooler regions. The palm itself seems reasonably tolerant of heavy frosts, but the leaves can scorch under modest frosts, meaning that the situation and shelter within the garden is important in order to keep it in good condition.
