Description
1x Billbergia nutans plant – this will likely be sent bare root, but may perhaps be potted.
Billbergia nutans is a bromeliad originating from South America, and is of particular interest to UK gardeners as it is one of the hardiest true bromeliad species.
This has overwintered for many years here in an unheated greenhouse and can also thrive permanently planted outdoors in a sheltered location.
Billbergia nutans makes rosettes of firm strap-shaped leaves. Remarkable flowers hang down in clusters with shades of purple, green, yellow and pink. A fantastic exotic looking plant!
Plant in a sheltered spot, either in the ground in a well drained fairly dry position with some overhead cover. Alternatively, it is possible to establish this plant as an epiphyte. For example, Billbergia looks superb growing from the trunk of Trachycarpus fortunei, the Chusan Palm!
