1x Pilea plataniflora ‘Glossy’ PB 09-1235 growing in a 9cm pot.
Pilea plantanifolia belongs to the plant family Urticaceae – home to many wonderful garden foliage plants, as well as the common Stinging Nettle! Pilea plataniflora is a non-stinging evergreen plant from Taiwan. Variable in form, this one has glossy leaves, hence the cultivar name ‘Glossy’. Originally collected by the French plantsman, Patrick Blanc. Collection number PB 09-1235.
Making short plants to around 50cm with tiny white flowers held at the lead axils. A lush and exotic-looking, hardy foliage plant for a part shaded position in rich soil. Very unusual and rarely seen. Fully hardy for us here in Devon where we have grown it for a few years since it’s introduction to cultivation.
