Description
Abutilon megapotamicum ‘Wisley Red’ established in a 9cm pot.
Abutilon megapotamicum is a long flowering species (almost 12 months for us!) that thrives in a warm spot in the garden. A south facing site is ideal. It’s slender stems can be trained up a trellis, fence or wall, up to a height of around 2 metres. The usual colour form of this species has red bell-shaped flowers with a yellow mouth. ‘Wisley Red’ is a rare cultivar that has wider bell-shaped flower in a deep red colour. Spectacular!
Easy to grow and certainly hardy to around -5 or -6. Most years, this stays in leaf for us all year, although in other colder parts of the country it might drop its leaves.
These are strong young plants.
