Fatsia japonica is a widely grown evergreen foliage plant grown for its large and handsome glossy palmate leaves. Fully hardy in the UK, it is best grown in shade for a rich deep colour and strong vigour.
Over the years a number of variegated forms have become available, and one of the best is ‘Spiders Web’. This has a pale frosting over the deep green background leaf colour. It is essential to grow this in full shade – this prevents the variegated leaves from scorching and brings out the best colours.
