Amorphophallus paeoniifolius, the Elephant Food Yam, is widely cultivated throughout much of the tropics as a vegetable. Both the leaves and tuber are used.
Capable of producing big tubers up to 30cm in diameter and leaves up to a couple of meters across, this is a large and impressive plant. The bizarre inflorescence is variable, but generally has a brownish / maroon spathe and a grotesque swollen spadix.
These seeds are fresh and will be sent moist packed in vermiculite. Sow in a well drained potting compost. Warmth is essential for germination and subsequent growth, but otherwise this is an easy plant.
