Encephalartos villosus

£25.00

Encephalartos villosus , growing in a 9cm pot. The plant in the photo is the exact plant for sale.

Encephalartos villosus is a South African species that grows along the border with Eswatini. As with virtually all Encephalartos species, they are highly valued plants and much sought after by collectors. Pretty much any Encephalartos is difficult to obtain in the UK, especially since Brexit.

We were fortunate to receive 10 seeds several years ago. Germination has been very poor – just 3 seeds sprouted, and although these have gone on to make a long tap root, only one has actually developed a leaf. Such is the way when growing cycads from seed! Unless the other 2 plants also develop leaves, this is likely to be a one time only offer.

Grow in an extremely free draining, largely inorganic mix. Water sparingly, especially in the winter months. Frost tender.
