Pilea plataniflora ‘Glossy’ PB 09-1235

£8.00

1x Pilea plataniflora ‘Glossy’ PB 09-1235 growing in a 9cm pot.

Pilea plantanifolia belongs to the plant family Urticaceae – home to many wonderful garden foliage plants, as well as the common Stinging Nettle! Pilea plataniflora is a non-stinging evergreen plant from Taiwan. Variable in form, this one has glossy leaves, hence the cultivar name ‘Glossy’. Originally collected by the French plantsman, Patrick Blanc. Collection number PB 09-1235.

Making short plants to around 50cm with tiny white flowers held at the lead axils. A lush and exotic-looking, hardy foliage plant for a part shaded position in rich soil. Very unusual and rarely seen. This has been fully hardy planted in the ground for us here in Devon where we have grown it for a few years since it’s introduction to cultivation, however, we have lost plants kept in pots in very cold periods.
