Description
Sauromatum giganteum tubers available in different sizes.
A spectacular species of Sauromatum with large ‘Arum’ shaped leaves and a deep purple / maroon inflorescence. The leaves are large and impressive, hence the name. As is common with all other Sauromatum species, the inflorescence smells strongly of dung / farmyard manure.
Sauromatum giganteum is fully hardy, but very late to start into growth in the UK – late July or even August. For best results it is wise to attempt to start the tubers into growth with some additional warmth, before moving the plants to frost free conditions as Autumn approaches. This helps give the plant enough growing time to nourish the tuber.
