Zantedeschia odorata is a species of Arum Lily found growing in damp areas of the northwest Cape in South Africa. It has proven to be hardy for us here in Devon, and remains mostly evergreen when grown under cover. It produces pure white flowers with a more open funnel shape than that seen in Zantedeschia aethiopica. The spadix is chunky and pale yellow. The name ‘odorata’ implies a strong scent, and this species does indeed smell very pleasant.
Under perfect conditions, Zantedeschia odorata can reach around 60-70cm in height. Although it looks superficially similar to the ubiquitous Zantedeschia aethiopica when not in flower, it has a somewhat more delicate and appearance.
