Pack of 3x young Cyanella orchidiformis corms.

Cyanella orchidiformis is South African geophyte found growing in the Western and Northern Cape. In the UK, it grows in the winter months and has a dormant period during the summer. As this is not a hardy plant, it needs to be grown under glass. Although it can tolerate low temperatures, the plant needs to be kept from freezing. Frost will kill the leaves.

Despite the effort in growing this plant, it is well worth persevering with and the flowers are absolutely beuatiful. As the latin name suggests, they bear a superficial resemblance to an orchid flower. Flower spikes produce several purple blooms along the length of the stem.

Grow in a well drained compost mix under glass and keep frost free. Plant the corms about 10cm deep.

These corms have been raised here and are about pea sized, or a little larger. They will need a couple of seasons before flowering. A real rarity in the UK.
